Our Christmas Party held on Wednesday 3rd December 2025

One table of our members enjoying a glass of mulled wine before our speaker. Mike Hurst told us of an Old Time Christmas. This was a light hearted social history of Christmas at home in the mid-20th century.

Raffle prizes which raised money for Wallingford Stroke Club

Our New Year Lunch was held at The Highwayman on Wednesday 21st January 2026

On a very wet and windy day we were all pleased to enjoy the company and a very tasty lunch at The Highwayman in Checkendon.

We are always welcomed by the friendly staff and are made to feel at home.

Our outings for 2026

Chiltern Valley Vineyard Tour and Tasting April 2026

A group of us visited the Vineyard and had a tour of wine production followed by a tasting with nibbles!

Mottisfont Abbey, Hampshire (National Trust) May 2026

Famous for its collection of old fashioned shrub roses which were in flower when we visited. The house has a collection of 20th century art and some interesting trompe l'oeil decoration by Red Whistler. A very warm day, one of the hottest so far this year!

We travelled to Llandrindod Wells on Monday 1st September having a stop at Stratford upon Avon for lunch before arriving at The Metropole Hotel later that afternoon.

First full day was our visit to Aberystwyth with a trip on the Victorian Cliff Railway giving this view of the bay. In the afternoon we boarded the steam-hauled, narrow gauge Vale of Rheidol Railway for a scenic trip to Devil's Bridge.

At our destination

Another day saw our group boarding for a two and a half hour canal cruise including an excellent lunch!

At the turning point we were able to embark and walk along the towpath before boarding for the return trip.

In the afternoon we visited the impressive Brecon Cathedral.

On our last full day we had a morning visit to the Elan Valley where a park ranger joined the coach for a circular tour to view the Victorian dams and man-made lakes. In the afternoon we visited the Judge's lodgings and stepped back into the 1870's to see how the world looked to the Victorian judges, their servants and felonious guests! It was lit only by oil and gas lamps.

Travelling home on our final day we had a break at Radway Bridge Garden Centre . They made us very welcome and reserved these tables for us to enjoy our coffee. En route we stopped for lunch at Stow on the Wold and arrived back in Wallingford on time! Everyone said how much they enjoyed the break and the company.
